Bering & James is pleased to announce the opening of Environments and Faces,
The show, part of ArtHouston’s Annual Summer Gallery Walk, features work by
artist Kevin Richert, running from Saturday, July 10,2010 to Friday, August 6, 2010.

Richert’s forms are all recognizable, a house, a lake, a skyscraper, or a person.
While his photorealism appears straightforward, Kevin Richert’s painterly intensity
intertwines the complexities of oils on canvas through the minute detail of each
of his subjects; our varied environments and portraits of those who inhabit them.
Richert’s paintings are intended to let the viewer into his world, whether it be real
or imagined. One striking element of Richert’s paintings is his ability to portray light
and its effects on each of his subjects. His dramatic luminosity changes as he
creates shapes and forms constantly developing before the eye. Richert ornately
captures these moments in time. Each stroke is deliberate, illustrating the precise
way that light and color interact with shapes of the human face and the
reflection of our scenery.

Richert’s life is one filled with friends and family, the rural setting of his home life,
and the urban environment of Houston, Texas. The subject of each painting is
dear to Richert’s heart and one he knows well. He believes people and their
environments are forever linked to our past, present and future. Whether these
moments occur at dawn, two in the afternoon, the cold of winter, or the calm
heat of a July sunset, each is precisely portrayed in Richert’s photorealistic
paintings.

Though Richert’s subjects may seem quite different from one another, there is a
unifying element to all works: they reveal the innate character of each subject.
Richert finds people and their environments to be one in the same: both have
distinct personalities which he seeks to discover through his painting process.
Richert hopes that the viewer will see a place, moment, color, or person in his
paintings that they might interpret and create their own personal story.
